The official Twenty-four Hour Comic Day is this weekend, but I did my twenty-four hour comic a few weeks back in anticipation of the fact that I wouldn’t have time later. As you can no doubt tell immediately, I did mine on superheroes.

I talk a lot of smack about superheroes. But the thing is, I actually like the genre. I read nothing but for ten years of my life. So while I have some pretty strong opinions on the industry that’s been built up around superhero comics, and while I don’t actually read superhero comics anymore because the issues I have with how they are done are usually too much of a barrier for me to enjoy the story, I do believe the genre has merit. There are still new stories to be told. There is still so much that can be done with superheroes. I just don’t want to have to fight against the overwhelming tide of forty-year-old rehashed magazine characters whose trademarks are more valuable than their personalities.

Except on Twenty-Four Hour Comic Day. This was my chance to pack all the ideas I had about superheroes into one comic. By the rules of the game I couldn’t have anything down on paper before the twenty-four hours began, but a lot of what you’ll see are ideas I’ve had swimming in my head for years.
