I had a hard time finding good sources for the architecture in India from this era, but one thing I did find was a painting from the right time period of Surat’s city walls. That, and the emperor’s traveling tent city. Jahangir spent most of his time traveling around to various parts of his domain, taking his entire court and entourage along with him, essentially making the capitol a mobile one (and not giving any undue preference, then, to any one region or city in India).

The Mughals weren’t the first Muslim monarchs in Gujarat. These walls, and their Arabic(?) inscriptions, date to a previous dynasty.
